A combined team of Senapati Forest Division, Police, CRPF, NCB personnel & village volunteers from Khabung carried out an operation and destroyed 12.9 hectares of illegal poppy crops at upper and lower Khabung hill ranges on January 6.
During the operation, the combined team also burnt and destroyed one makeshift hut.
The operation was carried out to curb narcotic drug production and trafficking in the region. Illicit poppy cultivation poses a serious threat to the health and safety of the public. Poppy cultivation is a serious offence under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, said officials who led the operation.
Urging cooperation with law enforcement agencies in eradicating illegal poppy cultivation, the officials requested citizens of the district to stay vigilant and report any information regarding illegal poppy cultivation to the nearest police station.
Efforts are on to identify and capture individuals who are involved in this illegal operation, said the officials.
