UKHRUL, Jan 7: Assam Rifles inaugurated a Vocational Tailoring Training Programme for widows of Ex-Servicemen in Ukhrul District. The initiative was formally launched by the Deputy Inspector General of Assam Rifles, with officials and troops present in strength to support the occasion.
As per a statement from the IGAR (South), a total of 25 widows from villages across the Ukhrul region have enrolled in the four week programme, which will conclude on February 3, 2026. The training has been designed to provide practical exposure to tailoring, equipping participants with essential skills for self-employment and income generation.
By focusing on hands-on learning, the programme seeks to instil confidence, encourage financial independence and create sustainable livelihood opportunities within their communities.
The Deputy Inspector General emphasised the importance of empowering women, particularly families of veterans who have made supreme sacrifices for the nation. He encouraged the participants to make full use of the opportunity to secure a dignified future for themselves and their families.
