IMPHAL, Jan 7 : Anouba Imagi Mangal (AIM), Khabam edged past Mayang Imphal United FC (MIUFC) by 3-2 goals for the 10th win and to finish second in the 3rd Premier League 2025-26 behind runaway leaders SSU.
AIM rode on captain Telem Suranjit’s double (22’, 45+3’) to enjoy a 2-1 first half lead at SSC ground, Sekta before Basanta retained the lead in the 73rd minute and sealed the victory.
Thongam Rabichandra scored both the goals for MIUFC today. He drew level earlier in the first half by adding his first in the 30th minute before scoring his second in the 60th minute to make it 2-2 until Basanta found the difference for the winners.
The result also meant that MIUFC slipped to 6th position (temporarily) as Social Sporting Club (SSC), Sekta pulled off a 3-1win over Sang-gai Heroes (SGH) earlier in the day to end their campaign on 22 points and go temporarily fifth in the 15-team tournament.
Shijagurumayum Jackson found the breakthrough for SSC in the 16th minute after the two sides made early unsuccessful runs before Yumnam Bikeshor doubled the advantage in the 28th minute. SGH, who were unlucky to reduce the margin despite chances, however halved the deficit with the help of Huidrom Alvishon’s 53rd minute strike but SSC regained their two-goal advantage with Waikhom Ngouba scoring the team’s third in the 77th minute.
SSC then held on to their lead by thwarting SGH’s spirited effort to reduce the margin. With the result, SGH ended their campaign in the 10th (temporarily) on 17 points off 5 wins and 2 draws.
