IMPHAL, Jan 8: Government residential quarters being constructed at New Checkon, Imphal East are likely to be completed and inaugurated in July this year.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) Director Ngangom Uttam said that there were 187 quarters for Government employees at the same place (New Checkon) where new residential quarters are being constructed.
There were 100 semi-pucca buildings of type-I, 44 semi-pucca buildings of type-II, 38 semi-pucca buildings of type-III and five semi-pucca buildings of type-IV (VIP quarters), Uttam said.
As these buildings got worn out and dilapidated, they were dismantled a few years back.
After the old buildings were dismantled, new buildings including eight-storeyed ones were constructed from May 9, 2022.
With loans from Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), Planning and Development Authority (PDA) started constructing the Government residential quarters.
While Keystone Private Limited is the executing agency, Tata Consulting Engineers Limited is the project management consultant, Uttam said.
The Government residential quarters being constructed at New Checkon include seven 8-storeyed buildings and one 7-storeyed building of type-III. All the three towers of type-V are 7-storeyed buildings. Type-VI and Type-VII quarters are also 7-storeyed buildings.
In total, there will be 13 towers and 392 families of Government employees can be accommodated in these quarters, he said.
The MAHUD Director said that the construction work has been completed by 70 per cent.
Earlier, the buildings were targeted for completion and inauguration in January 2025 but the construction work was delayed as construction materials could not be procured in time because of the violent crisis, he said.
Now, the target for completing and inaugurating the buildings has been shifted to July this year, he said.
He informed that the cost of the project is Rs 405.11 crore and construction of the buildings started after obtaining due permission from the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and in compliance with its building by-laws.
