IMPHAL, Jan 8: The People’s Alliance for Peace and Progress, Manipur (PAPPM) has unequivocally condemned the recent inflammatory, misleading and divisive statements issued by the self-styled “Kuki History & Identity Protection Committee’ and the “Kuki Human Rights Council.”
Their statements are riddled with falsehoods, devoid of Constitutional basis, and represent a calculated attempt to re-ignite tensions and sabotage the fragile peace that the people of Manipur are striving to restore, the PAPPM remarked.
A press release issued by PAPPM said that Manipur is, and shall forever remain an integral and indivisible part of the Republic of India.
It asserted that the State of Manipur constitutes a single, unified administrative and territorial entity and there exists no political, legal, or Constitutional recognition of any entity called “Kukiland” within its boundary.
PAPPM has also categorically and unreservedly rejected the concocted narrative of a so-called “Kuki– Meitei boundary buffer zone,” which has no groun-ding in law, fact or reality.
It then cited the official clarification issued by Manipur Police on May 21, 2024 which categorically stated that no “buffer zone” exists anywhere in Manipur. The police further clarified that security forces have been deployed solely in fringe, vulnerable and sensitive areas as a temporary and preventive measure to deter violence and restrict the movement of miscreants.
These deployments do not signify boundaries, partitions, zones of separation, or any form of territorial reorganisation. Any claim to the contrary is deliberate disinformation intended to mislead the public and inflame passions, it said.
It said that the contents of the particular press notes are a direct provocation and a conscious incitement to discord.
The open endorsement of violence, systematic vilification of communities and elected representatives, and reckless distortion of historical facts constitute a grave threat to public order, social harmony, and National unity. Such acts prima facie attract the stringent provisions of Indian law relating to sedition, promotion of enmity between groups, and actions prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, PAPPM said.
PAPPM has also expressed deep concern over the opposition by organisations aligned with separatist Kuki politics to the lawful identification and deportation of illegal immigrants from Manipur.
Indigenous and law-abiding residents of Manipur—including those under the broader Kuki umbrella overwhelmingly support such lawful measures, it said.
It is widely acknowledged that unchecked illegal immigration, facilitated by organised networks involved in drug trafficking and poppy cultivation, has played a significant role in destabilising the State and eroding the rule of law, it said.
PAPPM then urged the State and Central authorities to act firmly, decisively, and without delay against individuals or organisations that issue provocative, misleading, and secessionist statements aimed at disrupting peace and fracturing Manipur’s social fabric.
It added that PAPPM remains steadfast in its commitment to peace, Constitutional governance, and the unity and integrity of Manipur and the Republic of India.
