IMPHAL, Jan 8 : Manipur’s veteran tennis player Thongbam Tuleshwor made the State proud as he reached both the singles and doubles finals in the MT 400 Kolkata, a World Tennis Masters Tour event of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Competing in the 55 years category, Tuleswor settled for the doubles runner up as he and his partner Balan Ramadas went down 2-6, 1-6 to Mamawia Lalthanmawia and Venugopal Manghat in the final today.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, Tuleswor and Balan eased past Vikash Mehra and Subir Sinha 6-0, 6-1 before getting better of Gopinath Prakasm and Vimal Roy 6-3, 6-7 in the semi-finals.
Tuleswor, meanwhile, reached the singles final with a 6-1, 6-4 semi-final win over Subhash Pashottambhai Patel today.
He will play Ashish Jain, who outlasted Satpati Pal 6-0, 6-1 in another semi-final, in the title clash.
Tuleswor, who got a bye in the Round of 32, sealed a 6-0, 7-5 win over Yogesh Kohli in the Round of 16 before easing past Kartick Shah 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
