The case came to light following a complaint lodged by the uncle of the minor boy at Patsoi police station.
According to the complainant, on December 26, L Herojit, his wife Lairenlakpam ongbi Jina, along with their minor son and H Shandhrani, had left for Imphal together.
However, they returned home without the child.
When the family inquired, the accused claimed that the boy had been sent to a hostel for studies, but refused to provide further details.
The accused subsequently isolated themselves from the rest of the family and became unreachable for several days.
On the night of December 30-31, when relatives and local elders questioned them further, the accused revealed that the child had been sold to an unknown buyer at Uripok for Rs 1 lakh.
The accused claimed that, due to financial issues, they had refunded the money to the buyer and requested the return of the child.
However, two individuals, one of whom was reportedly an attendant at RIMS allegedly refused to return the child and threatened the family.
During police interrogation, the accused admitted to their involvement in the sale.
The investigation led to the arrest of more individuals connected to the case.
On January 4, Rs 85,000 was recovered from the brother-in-law of one of the accused Kshetrimayum Ranibala.
After considering the submissions made by both the APP for the State and the defence counsel, and reviewing the case records, the Court granted bail to all the accused.
The conditions of bail include the requirement for each accused to furnish a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh with one surety of the same amount.
