IMPHAL, Jan 31: Manipur closed out the Day 2 of their fifth and final Col CK Nayudu Trophy Plate competition at 32/3 to trail behind Mizoram by 108 runs at Gokulbhai Somabhai Patel Stadium in Nadiad.
Manipur won the toss yesterday and opted to bat first. Things however did not go well and they were bundled out for a modest total of 213 runs in 51.2 overs of the first innings despite Jotin Pheiroijam’s half century knock.
Mizoram responded well and posted 353 runs in 102.3 overs courtesy of a century knock from Nasib and a half century knock from Tetea, to take a 140-run first innings lead this afternoon.
Continuing the remaining portion of the third session, Manipur were 32/3 in 12.5 overs to trail Mizoram by 108 runs.
Yesterday, Manipur suffered double whammy losing Heisnam Manikanta and Vivekananda on ducks being trapped lbw by Nasib in the 3rd and the fourth delivery of the second over with just 4 runs on the scoreboard.
Ullenyai and Hussain however eased the pressure by forging 54 runs off 70 deliveries before Duata bowled out Ullenyai on 28 for the third wicket.
Hussain then departed on 29 for the fourth wicket as he was pinned lbw by Johan before K Vanrotlinga undone H Naoba on 4 for the fifth wicket in the 31st over as the scoreboard read 115.
Experienced all-rounder Jotin Pheiroijam, who forged 37 runs off 89 balls with Naoba, stood firm and toyed around the Mizoram batters for a while to complete his half century with Jodash.
But Jotin too fell to Vanrotlinga on 64 off 69 balls after forging 43 runs off 51 balls with Jodash, who was too removed by Vanrotlinga on 16 for the 7th wicket.
From 170/7 in 41 overs, Kalyan, who came in at number 8 did his best to hold things together and was unbeaten on 30 off 41 balls as Manipur innings came to an end at 213.
For Mizoram, Vanrotlinga returned with the best bowling figures of 3/51 as Nasib 2/24 and Kima 2/32 shared four wickets and Duata 1/28, Johan 1/32 and Marcus 1/4 chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Tetea 88 off 143, Sahil Sharma 24 and Vanrotlinga 38 gave Mizoram a positive start before Nasib joined the fray and struck 101 off 182 before he holed out to Suson off the bowling of Heishnam Manikanta for the final wicket in the 103rd over today.
Suson returned with a fifer in this innings (5/64 in 21 overs) as Kangujam Ringku grabbed 3 wickets (3/63 in 20 overs). Kalyan 1/82 and H Manikanta 1/2 also collected a wicket apiece to set up the Mizoram collapse.
Manipur also had a disappointing start to the second innings losing Ullenyai 3 off 15 to Nasib, H Manikanta 4 off 9 and H Naoba 0 off 27 to Vanrotlinga.
Hussain was unbeaten on 21 as the day was called.
