Many condemn arson attacks

IMPHAL, Feb 10: Many organisations including the Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC), Joint Tribes Council (JTC) Manipur, Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) Eastern Zone, Konsakhul (Konsaram) Village Authority (KVA) and K Lungwiram Village Authority (KLVA) have condemned the arson attacks that took place at Litan in Ukhrul district and K Lungwiram village, Kangpokpi district.
According to a press release issued by FNCC, the arson attacks carried out against Naga villages in the Litan area on the night of February 8 were premeditated.
It alleged that approximately 30 Vaiphei youths from Saronphai (Vaiphei village) descended upon K Lungwiram Naga village, Kangpokpi district under Sapermeina police station, and set ablaze the residence of Azan Abonmai, s/o (late) Kwaklei Abonmai in the wee hours of February 9.
Such attacks amount to a direct challenge against the Naga people as a whole and expose a complete collapse of law and order in the State of Manipur, it said.
Any further delay, silence, or inaction shall be construed as deliberate complicity.
The entire responsibility tor any escalation of the situation will rest squarely on the Government and the concerned authorities, it said.
The LNC, Eastern Zone and JTC Manipur too have unequivocally condemned the barbaric and calculated arson attacks on Naga villages in Litan on the night of February 8, 2026 followed by a targeted attack at around 11.55 pm on February 9 at K Lungwiram Naga village.
Warning the Government of Manipur and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, that any failure to immediately identity, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators without bias or delay will leave FNCC with no option but to initiate proportionate retaliatory measures within its jurisdiction, the FNCC has demanded immediate deployment of adequate, neutral security forces in the affected Naga areas and the provision of urgent humanitarian relief to safeguard the lives, dignity and properties of innocent Naga villagers.
Meanwhile, separate press releases issued by Konsakhul (Konsaram) Village Authority and K Lungwiram Village Authority alleged that the heinous and premeditated attack at K Lungwiram village was orchestrated by Thangkhulen Vaiphei (chief of L Munlai), Haopu Vaiphei (chief of Leilon Khunou), Lalboi Vaiphei (chief of Leilon Vaiphei) and Thangboi Vaiphei (chief of Saronphai).
The two village authorities said that K Lungwiram village, at present, stands unlawfully seized, with its inhabitants effectively held in a hostage-like situation by Vaiphei elements, plunging the village into a severe humanitarian crisis.
The villagers are living under constant fear, insecurity and deprivation, with serious threats to their lives, dignity and property, they said.
They have also called for immediate and decisive intervention from the State Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs, and to deploy adequate neutral security forces to secure K Lungwiram village.
