IMPHAL, Feb 10 : The partly decomposed body of 42-year-old Seram ningol Salam ongbi Niloda, who had been missing since January 27, was discovered this morning in the Nambul River at Heirangoithong, Imphal West.
Niloda, wife of Tomba of Kwakeithel Lamdong Leikai, was found floating in the river by people involved in construction work along the Nambul riverbank and they immediately alerted the police about the discovery.
Upon arrival, the police cordoned off the area for an inquest.
A forensic team from the State Forensic Department also examined the body and surrounding area.
Family members of the deceased later arrived at the scene and confirmed that the body was indeed that of Niloda.
After the inquest, the body was taken by Singjamei police and deposited at RIMS Morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The police have registered a case.
The post-mortem was completed this afternoon, and the body was returned to the family for the last rites.
It is worth noting that Niloda had been missing since January 27, when she left her residence, and her whereabouts remained unknown until her body was found this morning.
