IMPHAL, Feb 15 : Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has urged the people of Manipur not to be influenced by the actions of certain groups who seek to divide the State.
Dr Bimol inaugurated a Temple of Tingkao Ragwang Kalum Kai at Keikhu under Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency in Imphal East today.
Speaking as the chief guest at the ceremony, the MP emphasised the importance of preserving Mani- pur's shared cultural, religious, and emotional inte- grity to safeguard the State.
He also stated that Manipur is home to various communities and does not belong to any single one.
It would be wrong to assume that only the Meiteis are responsible for safeguarding the State, Dr Bimol said.
Saying that it was the British India colonial policy that divided Manipur into hills and valley for their administrative convenience, he asserted that the Manipur valley, however, is not inhabited by the Meiteis alone.
He further explained that every community originally settled in the hills and later migrated to the valley in search of livelihood.
People of Manipur must recognize that illegal immigrants have been working to create animosity among the State’s original inhabitants, the MP said and appealed to every Manipuri to move beyond narrow, community- centric politics and unite for a better Manipur by finding common ground.
The MP further appealed to every Manipuri to collaborate in resolving crises related to identity, education, unemployment, envi- ronment, development etc.
"Let’s preserve the culture and traditions passed down by our ancestors," he urged, emphasising that  unity will never be achieved if people continue to focus on past mistakes and grievances.
Kshetrigao AC MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan, Kabui leaders and residents of different Kabui Villages also attended the programme among others.
