Cigs worth Rs 2.9 Cr seized

IMPHAL, Feb 16 : Assam Rifles personnel have recovered 88 cartons of illicit foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 2.9 crore from a vehicle moving towards Kangpokpi from Churachandpur on February 15.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the smuggling of cigarettes, Assam Rifles on Sunday established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) on State Highway-06, in Noney.
During the operation, a vehicle moving from Chura-chandpur towards Kang- pokpi was intercepted and subjected to a detailed check.
Upon thorough search of the vehicle, 23 cartons of Gudan Garam and 65 cartons of Mond Variance cigarettes were recovered.
Two individuals were also apprehended in connection with the seizure.
The seized consignment and the vehicle have been handed over to Noney Police for further legal proceedings.
