IMPHAL, Feb 16: There can be no admission to 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme at Lilong Haoreibi College in absence of required teachers, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has said.
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has included Manipur's Lilong Haoreibi College as an ITEP college offering admission to BA BEd and BSc BEd.
However, the college has no specific teachers for the integrated courses, DESAM president O Romesh said, speaking to media persons at the organisation's office at Keishampat.
Romesh asserted that the teachers at Lilong Haoreibi College for the integrated courses are general college teachers being utilised as ITEP teachers.
The process to recruit ITEP specific teachers must be started and the teachers being utilised at the college must be sent back to their respective colleges, Romesh said.
He noted that in 2020, the then State Cabinet had taken a decision to recruit 95 ITEP teachers and 20 non-teaching staff.
However, this decision has not materialised, and the recruitment has not been held to this day, Romesh said.
Seeking the attention and intervention of the Chief Minister, Romesh said DESAM is placing three demands for the Government to act.
He said the Government and the relevant departments must start the process to recruit ITEP teachers, and send back the teachers being utilised at the Lilong Haoreibi College.
He also sought strict action against the Education Director, Commissioner and top officials for their failure to implement the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in Manipur timely and efficiently.
DESAM would be grateful if the Chief Minister takes appropriate actions on the demand within 24 hours, Romesh said. If admissions to the integrated courses are allowed at the Lilong Haoreibi College in absence of ITEP teachers, it would be a serious blunder that could jeopardise education, he said.
Romesh appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene and look into the functioning of the ITEP Committee, and urged the members to stop making the blunder.
