Khemchand may visit Delhi

IMPHAL, Feb 17: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand may visit Delhi by February 20 to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Yumnam Khemchand who was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Manipur on February 4, 2026 may go to New Delhi by February 20 and pay courtesy calls to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
After his return from New Delhi, Khemchand may expand his Cabinet to the full capacity and allot portfolios to the Ministers.  
Even though the total strength of the State’s Council of Ministers should be 12, seven ministerial berths are still vacant.
Along with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers on  February 4. Govindas Konthoujam and Khuraijam  Loken were also sworn in as Cabinet Ministers on the same day.
But neither the Deputy Chief Ministers nor the Cabinet Ministers have been allotted any portfolio till date.
A list of MLAs recommended by BJP Central leaders for the vacant ministerial posts may be given to Khemchand during his visit to New Delhi.
The BJP Central leaders may also specify the portfolios to be allotted to the Ministers, said the sources.
Meanwhile, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla returned to Imphal from New Delhi this afternoon.
