Court sends accused in sexual assault case to police custody

IMPHAL, Feb 19 : The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today remanded 24 years old Bachaspatimayum Rohit Sharma to 5 days police custody on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl on February 16 somewhere in Imphal West district under Lamphel police station.
Accused Rohit, s/o Ibohal of Thoubal Leishangthem Wangmataba was produced before the Court by a team of Lamphel police station.
The APP for the State submitted that the mother of the minor victim lodged a complaint with Lamphel police station on the night of February 17.
The complainant stated that her daughter went missing from their rented house on the night of February 16, and the following morning, around 6 am, the minor girl was found at Governor Road.
On questioning, the victim stated that she had gone to an unknown restaurant with the accused, where he sexually assaulted her, said the complainant and added that her daughter was later abandoned near Khwairamband Keithel.
During the course of investigation, the accused was arrested by a team of Lamphel police.
The accused has also accepted the charges levelled against him.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused to police custody till February 23.
The Court also directed the IO of the case to produce the accused before the Court of Special Court POCSO Imphal West on February 23.
