UG cadres remanded to police custody

IMPHAL, Feb 19 : The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today remanded two active members of the banned underground outfit KCP (Apunba) to police custody for their alleged involvement in the bomb blast at Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai in Imphal West on the night of February 3.
Accused Chingkheinganba Wahengbam (20), son of Ramananda of Wahengbam Leikai, and Ningthoujam Chalamba (29), son of Late Subol of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai, were produced before the Court following their formal arrest by a team of  Imphal police station.
The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) for the State submitted that on February 10, the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case submitted an enquiry report regarding the bomb blast.
According to the report, the incident took place near the gate of one Moirangthem Nilamani Devi at Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai.
During the spot inspection, no splinters or incriminating materials were found.
However, CCTV footage revealed that two unidentified individuals had arrived on foot around 10.15 pm on February 3, lit what appeared to be a bomb, and threw it near the gate of Moirangthem Nilamani Devi, causing an explosion.
Fortunately, there were no casualties or property damage, but the blast created panic in the locality.
The investigation later revealed that the accused individuals, both active cadres of KCP (Apunba), were involved in the bombing.
The APP further stated that during preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to being active members of KCP (Apunba) and confirmed their involvement in the bombing at the residence gate of Moirangthem Nilamani.
The police requested a 7-day remand for further investigation.
After considering the APP's submissions and reviewing the case records, the Court remanded the accused to 7 days police custody til February 25, to ensure a smooth investigation into the case.
