5 CP football players leave Imphal National camp

IMPHAL, Feb 20 : As many 5 Cerebral Palsy football players from Manipur have left Imphal today for the National camp beginning tomorrow at Gwalior’s Centre for Disability Sports.
Notably, 5 players from Manipur- Baroon Yumnam, Khagokpam Ronaldo, Moirangthem Jiten, Waikhom Clinton and Nikhil received the call for the preparatory cum trial camp to be held ahead of the World CP Football Championship due to be hosted by the United Kingdom.
Speaking to media persons before departing, secretary of Spastic Society of Manipur, Laishram Tokendra Ricky said that the players will join the camp for preparation of the team India for the 7-a-side world event.
The selection of 5 players to prepare the National team is itself a matter of pride, he said while adding that the State has a huge potential of producing world class CP and PWD (Persons with Disabilities) players if they are timely identified and groomed from the grassroots level. Maintaining that efforts are being made to incorporate PWD in the sports policy, he also urged the guardians to encourage their different abled wards towards sports and ensure proper training to them.
