IMPHAL, Feb 20 : Nambol AC MLA Th Basanta Kumar Singh has maintained that Manipur society should collectively reject and deny space to those who exploit events to create division and terror with the objective of derailing peace building efforts.
Highlighting the need for peace in the State, Th Basanta Kumar asserted that those seeking to create a senseless cycle of hate and animosity through acts of violence, provocations and rumour-mongering need to be dealt with firmly across ethnic lines.
Putting an emphasis on engaging in constructive dialogue, he said that the restoration of a popular Government in the State under the leadership of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has provided a rare window of opportunity to break the cycle of violence and make the necessary course corrections.
Commenting on the role of the public in this endeavour, he stressed that every responsible citizen of Manipur and every section of society has a responsibility and solemn duty to choose peace for a better future.
Stating that peace is made through countless small moments of choosing contact over isolation and connection over conflict, he also elaborated the role of specific groups such as parents who can teach their children and journalists towards promoting peace.
"Every decent Manipuri plays a role in creating the conditions for genuine peace and ushering in a better future for us all", said the Nambol AC MLA.
