IMPHAL, Feb 21: The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has flagged "massive irregularities" in the administration of DM Community College, and called for criminal FIRs to be registered against officials.
The DM Community College is being run "like a shop" to profit from students, said the KSA in a statement.
While the intake capacity of the community college has been increased beyond 100 against the original capacity of 50 seats as per National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), the institution is now charging exorbitant admission fees from students, it said.
Earlier, the Government used to notify the admission fees. It usually ranged between Rs 3,200 and Rs 4,500. Now, this has been increased to Rs 19,350, discouraging students from poor households to enrol at the community college, said KSA.
Moreover, in a clear sign of the college being run as a private for-profit institution, none of the students have been found registered with the National Commission for Allied Health Care Professions (NCAHP), it said.
While the college saw many developments in the past, it now receives no funds from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for not submitting a consolidated utilization certificate, said the KSA.
Authorities concerned of the Government must look into the affairs of the DM Community College at the earliest and take appropriate measures. Criminal cases must be slapped against authorities which have been profiteering from the students, it said.
The KSA will be closely monitoring the administration/functioning of the college, it added.
