Centre approves 28 new faculty positions for RIMS Imphal

IMPHAL, Feb 21: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has reached an important milestone since its integration under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India in April 2007, with an approval for creation of 28 additional faculty positions in various super speciality departments.
The newly approved positions span across several key departments, including Urology, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, Cardiology, Neurology, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Medical Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Haematology, Sports Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Clinical Psychology, PMR, Transfusion Medicine, and Anaesthesiology.
The sanction, issued last week with concurrence of the Department of Expenditure, represents a significant boost to RIMS, Imphal and reflects the Ministry’s strong commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and medical education in the North Eastern region of India, said the hospital.
This major expansion is expected to significantly enhance clinical services, academic capacity, and patient care across multiple specialties, helping RIMS, Imphal move closer to National standards of excellence.
The increased manpower will also improve medical education by opening various super speciality departments, healthcare delivery, reduce patient referrals outside the State, and support advanced medical services for Manipur and neighbouring regions, added the hospital.
The RIMS Imphal authorities have meanwhile expressed sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Government of India for the landmark support, which marks a notable achievement in the institute’s growth and development.
