IMPHAL, Feb 22 : As part of a Nationwide initiative, the Food Safety Administration, Imphal East, has launched a Hygienic Rating Audit for Food Business Operators in the district, starting today.
The exercise, which began on February 19 in Manipur, will run until February 28.
For Imphal East, the programme will conclude tomorrow.
Today, the audit was conducted at Classic Grande at Chingmeirong, Deepak Hotel at Mantripukhri, Buns and Bread, as well as various other restaurants and hotels in Imphal East.
Speaking to the media, N Shyam, Food Safety Officer of Imphal East, explained that the Hygiene Rating Audit focuses on various factors, including the sourcing of ingredients, storage methods, food preparation, and how food is served to consumers.
He added that during the inspection, they encountered some restaurants and hotels where storage rooms and kitchens were combined, handwashing facilities were absent, and drainage systems were inadequate, among other concerns.
Stating that the hotels and restaurants with inadequate facilities have been directed to address the issues within 10 days, he added that necessary actions would be taken if they fail to comply.
Shyam further said that the audit will also be conducted at schools and places of worship.
