A 12-member media delegation from Manipur has commenced a press tour to Kerala on Sunday with the objective of gaining first-hand exposure to key Central Government institutions, major development initiatives, and the State’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
The press tour is being organised by the Press Information Bureau, Imphal in collaboration with Press Information Bureau Kochi and Press Information Bureau Thiruvananthapuram under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
The tour aims to enhance the professional capacity of journalists by enabling them to directly witness and understand significant National projects and share their experiences.
The initiative seeks to provide journalists from Manipur with an opportunity to engage closely with institutions of National importance, facilitating informed and comprehensive reporting.
The delegation comprises ten journalists representing both the valley and hill districts of Manipur and includes professionals from print as well as electronic media. The participating media organisations include The Sangai Express, Poknapham, ISTV, Impact TV, Hueiyen Lanpao, Sanaleibak, NE News, India Today NE, Gaanphiu Mail, Akashvani Imphal, and The Cham.
The tour is being coordinated by Moirangthem Rustum, Assistant Director, Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office Chandel, who is accompanying the delegation as the Conducting Officer along with Thokchom Rabichandra, Information Assistant, PIB Imphal.
During the visit, the delegation will tour several prominent institutions and flagship projects such as the Kochi Water Metro (Vyttila–Fort Kochi stretch), the Rubber Board, the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI), Vizhinjam Port, the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology Kovalam, and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, which showcases contemporary art across multiple venues. These engagements are designed to highlight India’s progress in infrastructure, scientific research, innovation, and cultural development.
The programme also includes a courtesy call on the Governor of Kerala, adding an important official dimension to the tour.
This press tour is a significant component of PIB’s outreach efforts to strengthen inter-regional media understanding, foster National unity, and promote comprehensive coverage of development initiatives across the country. The exposure and insights gained are expected to help participating journalists produce balanced, well-researched, and impactful reports.
The key objectives of the tour include familiarising journalists from Manipur with the implementation of Government of India schemes in Kerala; encouraging professional interaction and the exchange of ideas among media professionals from different regions; gaining a deeper understanding of Kerala’s socio-economic and cultural environment; and building long-term partnerships between PIB officials and media organisations in both Manipur and Kerala.
The initiative will also contribute to strengthening professional ties between the media and various Government departments, ensuring better communication channels for accurate and effective reporting.
