Manipur, PM, CM celebrate Boong's success

IMPHAL, Feb 23 : As the entire State and Nation gathers to celebrate a huge cinematic milestone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his congratulations to the team of Manipuri-language film Boong after it clinched a win at the BAFTA Awards for Best Children’s & Family Film.
Praising the movie, the Prime Minister wrote on X, “Congratulations to all those associated with this film. This is indeed a moment of immense joy, especially for Manipur. It also highlights the immense creative talent in our Nation.”
Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh too conveyed his heartiest congratulations to Lakshmipriya Devi on her remarkable achievement at the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) 2026.
In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister hailed Boong's BAFTA win as a moment of immense pride not only for the State but for the entire Nation.
“This prestigious international recognition reflects her exceptional creativity, dedication and commitment to meaningful storytelling”, he said.
He further lauded the director, stating that she has consistently brought laurels through her outstanding work in cinema, adding this latest honour has further elevated the stature of Manipuri art and culture on the global stage.
On behalf of the people of Manipur, the Chief Minister extended his heartfelt appreciation and best wishes for Lakshmipriya Devi's continued success.
“May she keep inspiring generations and bringing greater pride and glory to our state,” he added.
Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has credited the success of Boong to the entire team of its cast and crew.
The artists belonging to different communities - Meiteis, Kukis and non-Manipuris -have put their best efforts to achieve this monumental success, said O Ibobi in a press release.
Extending his congratulations to director Lakshmipriya, Okram Ibobi Singh celebrated the “landmark moment in the history of Indian cinema, particularly for Manipur” with immense pride and joy.
With this achievement, her debut feature film has firmly placed Manipuri cinema on the world stage, he said.
The film's success is a loud message to convey in the troubled times for the conflict-torn State, he noted.
Praising the director's courage and artistry in story telling, he said people were deeply moved by the director's poignant acceptance speech where she shone a light on her home State.
“Her prayer for peace to return to Manipur and her hope that internally displaced children might regain their joy and innocence is a powerful reminder of the responsibility of art in times of conflict”, said the former Chief Minister.
The Thadou Inpi Manipur has also extended their congratulations to Gugun Kipgen, who plays the titular role of Boong in the movie, and the entire team of the Manipuri film Boong on their historic win at the BAFTA Awards.
In a social media post, TIM said the Thadou community is immensely proud of Gugun Kipgen "a talented member of our Thadou tribe".
The Television and Cine Foundation Manipur and National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) have offered their congratulations at Boong's historic win.
