CM pitches for TA battalion

IMPHAL, Feb 23: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand today called on Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and urged the latter to raise one Territorial Army (TA) battalion for Manipur.
Together with Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Khemchand called on Rajnath Singh  at his office at New Delhi.  
Sources said that they deliberated minutely on the security situation of Manipur.
The Union Defence Minister assured that the Government of India will pay top priority to the security of Manipur.
Rajnath assured that the Ministry of Defence will provide all possible assistance toward creating a peaceful environment in Manipur.  
While Rajnath assured the Chief Minister of all assistance from the Defence Ministry in any endeavour of the State Government, Khemchand urged the Union Defence Minister to raise on TA battalion for Manipur.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Losii Dikho and Nemcha Kipgen, Khemchand also called on Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
They discussed the State’s economy and development activities with the Union Finance Minister.
Pointing out that the State’s economy suffered a huge blow on account of the widespread violence which erupted on May 3, 2023, the Chief Minister urged the Union Finance Minister to pay special attention toward reviving and enhancing the State’s economic growth.
Khemchand and Nirmala Sitharaman also discussed the State’s budget session which is likely to be held shortly.
Yumnam Khemchand also met Union Minister of DoNER Jyotiraditya Scindia and they talked on development issues of Manipur.
It is said that the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Ministers will meet Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh  Chauhan at 10 pm today.
Chief Minister Y Khemchand will meet some other Central leaders tonight and tomorrow before coming back to Imphal.
Moreover, the Chief Minister has sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said the sources.
