IMPHAL, Feb 24 : Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the construction of five thousand new houses for the rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna–Gramin (PMAY–G).
Chouhan has approved the new houses for IDPs affected by the law and order crisis (ethnic violence) for the financial year 2025-26 after meeting with Chief Minister Yumnam Khem-chand Singh last evening in New Delhi, said CM's Secretariat in a press note.
Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho accompanied Khem-chand while meeting the Union Minister. Chouhan received the three Manipur leaders and assured all help in their bid to bring peace and normalcy in the State.
Earlier this month, the State Government had submitted a proposal for a special project under PMAY-G for the construction of 5000 houses for IDPs affected by the ethnic violence.
The Union Rural Development Ministry has also agreed to implement a special window for the Awaas+ 2024 household survey to capture details of eligible affected households and the State Government has been authorized to continue the registration process for eligible beneficiaries under this special project.
However, the Ministry directed that the identification and uploading of beneficiary details must be done in accordance with PMAY-G guidelines using the Awaas+ 2024 mobile app.
The houses will be constructed following the provisions of the FFI (Financial and Functional Indicator) under PMAY-G.
Furthermore, the State Government has been permitted to sanction houses for beneficiaries who had previously received assistance under PMAY-G but whose homes were destroyed during the ethnic violence.
