
NEW DELHI, Feb 24
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, along with his two Deputy Chief Ministers, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the PM’s office in New Delhi on Tuesday and invited him to visit the State.
This was Khemchand’s first meeting with the Prime Minister after taking over as the Chief Minister.
This was also the first time that the Prime Minister has granted an audience to any political leader from Manipur after violence erupted on May 3, 2023.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat said that Khemchand briefed Modi on the steps taken by the new Government to promote peace and harmony in the State. He also urged the Prime Minister to take special care of women’s empowerment in both the hills and the valley of Manipur.
The Chief Minister also called on Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari at New Delhi.
He was accompanied by his two Deputies Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP and Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), said a press release issued by CM's Secretariat.
This is the first time that Khemchand met Gadkari after he took over as the Chief Minister on February 4.
The Chief Minister briefed Gadkari on the status of various road projects in the State.
He also requested the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister to give special attention to the State’s proposal for elevated highway and strengthening of National Highways in the State.
Assuring all possible help to the State from his Ministry, Gadkari said that the proposals submitted by the State Government will be considered positively.
