Maj (Dr) Jyotin, AC (P) Memorial Football Tournament 2026 kicks off in Bishnupur

Imphal, Feb 25 : Maj (Dr) Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra (P) Memorial Football Tournament 2026 commenced today at DSA Ground, Bishnupur, Manipur, under the aegis of the Indian Army and with the support of the All Manipur Football Association.
As many as 16 teams are taking part in the tournament organised in honour of Maj (Dr) Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra (P), who made his supreme sacrifice in a terror attack in Kabul.
His exemplary courage, unwavering dedication and selfless service to the Nation continue to inspire generations, said a statement issued by PIB Defence Wing.
The ceremonial inauguration was conducted in the presence of civil and military dignitaries, local representatives and enthusiastic members of the sporting fraternity. The event was attended by approximately 600 spectators and invitees, it said.
Through this memorial tournament, the Indian Army reaffirms its commitment to honouring national heroes, strengthening civil–military relations and contributing towards a peaceful, progressive and inclusive environment in Manipur, it added.
The opening match between Loktak FC and Sangai FC set an energetic tone for the tournament.
In a closely contested and exciting encounter, Loktak FC emerged victorious with a 2–1 win, displaying remarkable teamwork and determination.
L Athang Kom (20’) and S Sital (35’) were on target for Loktak FC as Md Arish Khan scored the lone goal for Angtha FC in the 31st minute.
In the second match, Sainik FC knocked out NCYWO 6-5 on penalties after a 2-2 regulation time draw. Sainik FC enjoyed a 2-1 first half lead as Ch Shinivash (3’) and N Abijit (19’) found the target and Hermon (38’) found one for NCYWO. NCYWO however drew level in the 52nd minute through Keneth to stretch the match to a penalty shoot-out wherein Sainik FC emerged 6-5 winners.
In the third match, Taj Khan scored an early 4th minute goal to earn ESU a 1-0 win over FC Kumbi.
