IMPHAL, Feb 25 : The Court of Sessions Judge of Imphal West has granted interim pre-arrest (anticipatory) bail to Athokpam Gokulchandra, a Manipuri film actor and a Civil Supply Inspector of the Directorate of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in connection with a case filed at the Imphal West women police station.
In the case, the actor was accused of physically assaulting his wife.
Gokulchandra (51) has reportedly been living with his wife and children at Langjing Achouba.
According to reliable sources, the incident occurred a few days ago at their residence at Langjing Achouba, prompting the registration of an FIR against the actor at the Imphal West women police station. The sources also noted that the police had submitted their report to the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class I on February 23 for legal proceedings. Suspecting that an arrest might be imminent in connection with the FIR, the actor filed an anticipatory bail application before the Sessions Judge of Imphal West through his counsel yesterday.
After hearing the submissions of the counsel for the petitioner and reviewing the application, the Court granted interim pre-arrest bail to Gokulchandra. Additionally, the Court called for an objection report from the Imphal West women police Station and scheduled the next hearing for March 10.
