IMPHAL, Feb 26 : Condemning the heinous act of stalking, racial abuse, and physical assault allegedly committed against a third-year resident doctor from Nagaland at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Gorakhpur on February 22, the All Naga Doctors’ Forum, Manipur (ANDFM) has raised a demand for justice and accountability.
In a press release, ANDFM called upon the authorities concerned to conduct a swift, impartial, and transparent investigation into the matter and sought identification and arrest of the perpetrators at the earliest.
It has further appealed for strict legal action against the culprits under relevant provisions, including those addressing racial discrimination and assault against women.
In order to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, ANDFM has called for strengthened security measures within and around the campus of AIIMS, Gorakhpur.
According to ANDFM, the young doctor was allegedly followed for over a kilometre and a half, subjected to obscene remarks and racial slurs targeting her North Eastern identity, and physically assaulted near Gate No 2 of the institute.
Terming it deeply disturbing and unacceptable, ANDFM maintained that such acts of intimidation and racial discrimination strike at the very core of dignity, equality, and safety guaranteed under the Constitution of India.
Expressing unwavering solidarity with their colleague, ANDFM called it profoundly disheartening that a medical professional, committed to patient care, should face such hostility and violence.
Racial discrimination and gender-based violence have no place in a civilized society. Institutions of National importance must remain safe spaces for all, particularly for women and professionals from diverse communities, maintained ANDFM.
