IMPHAL, Feb 25: The Rastrahit Sarvopari Sangathan has submitted a memorandum to the President, Prime Minister and Union Home Minister of India seeking NRC implementation, rehabilitation of IDPs, unimpeded opening of National Highways and Scheduled Tribe status for the Meitei people.
A memo signed by National founder president Sohan Giri and National vice president M Indrajit Singh urged the Central leadership to complement local efforts led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and align them with the National vision of a "Sashakt Bharat" (Strong India) by taking immediate executive action on the following key demands:
Implementation of NRC & Combating Infiltration: The Sangathan has demanded implementation of NRC in Manipur with 1951 as the base year. It added that this step is necessary to halt illegal infiltration, which poses a direct threat to the sovereignty and internal security of the country. This process must be carried out before the National Census 2026.
Drugs and Terrorist-Free Bharat: To secure the North East frontier against the "Golden Triangle" drug trade and cross-border militancy, the memo has called for a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics and insurgent activities.
Safe and Sustainable Rehabilitation of IDPs: Facilitating a safe, dignified, and sustainable return for all IDPs, which includes permanent housing and livelihood support to ensure they are not vulnerable to external influences.
Unimpeded Opening of NH-2 and NH-37: The Sangathan has urged the Central Government to ensure that all National Highways are permanently open and secure to end the "economic terrorism" of illegal extortions and blockades that fuel inflation and suffering.
Scheduled Tribe (ST) Status for Meitei People: It has requested the Union Government to expedite the inclusion of the Meitei community in the ST list.
According to the Sangathan, this constitutional safeguard is necessary to protect indigenous land and identity from the pressures of infiltration. The restoration of lasting peace is contingent upon addressing these core issues of identity, security, and the rule of law, said the Sangathan.
