Purul Atongba named best performing village in forest fire prevention

SENAPATI, Feb 26: Purul Atongba village has been recognised as the Best Performing Village in Forest Fire Prevention and Management for the year 2025-26 under the Liyai Khunou Range of the Senapati Forest Division.
The selection was based on real-time forest fire SMS alerts generated through the system of the Forest Survey of India (FSI), supported by satellite data from MODIS and SNPP-VIIRS, along with field verification by forest officials.
As part of efforts to encourage greater community participation, Benjamin Ziipao, Range Forest Officer of Liyai Khunou Range, handed over a cheque of Rst 50,000 to Victor Danii, Chairman of Purul Atongba Village, for the renovation and repair of a groundwater source in the village.
The cheque was presented at the Divisional Office, Senapati, in the presence of H Geetchandra, RFO (HQ) and Athipro Kayina, Deputy Ranger.
