IMPHAL, Feb 26 : Chingkheihunba Polo Club (CHPC), Kongpal and X-Polo Club, Wangkhei will lock horns for the 32nd Governor’s Cup Invitation Polo Tournament for men while AR Polo Club and CHPC will fight it out for the women’s title.
X-Polo Club reached the final with an 8-6 victory over Assam Rifles Polo Team in the first semi-final match before Chingkheihunba Polo Club outlasted Black Watch PC, Babupara 6-4 in the second semi-final match.
Th Jacob scored four goals, all in the second chukker to set up the big win for X-Polo Club. P Ojit scored a goal apiece in the second and the third chukker for the team while L Atangba and Th Santosh contributed a goal each.
For Assam Rifles Polo Team, S Bon Bon scored thrice, one each in the first, third and the final chukker while Kh Chandrakumar, L Joykumar and M Kuber scored a goal apiece.
In the second semi-final match, T Leishemba scored a goal each in the first three chukkers to earn CHPC a 6-4 win over Black Watch PC.
They were trailing 3-4 till the halfway mark but Leishemba drew level in the third chukker before O Rozer and Alex Aheibam scored a goal apiece in the final chukker to seal the 6-4 win.
For Black Watch PC, M Chaoba scored all the four goals before they failed to convert their chances in the final two chukkers.
Women’s Polo
The day also saw Assam Rifles Women’s Polo Team set up the final date with CHPC as they outlasted Ibudhou Pakhangba Polo Club, Malom 6-1.
M Enourembi gave AR Women’s Polo Team a 1-0 first chukker lead before Oinam Veronica, H Pitu and N Laxmi found a goal apiece in the third chukker to extend the lead to 4-0.
Veronica then added twice in the final chukker to complete her treble and the 6-1 victory. The consolation goal for Ibudhou Pakhangba Polo Club was scored by Y Ranjita in the final chukker.
The final matches of the tournament are scheduled on February 28.
