IMPHAL, Feb 27: A large number of nurses working at JNIMS on contract basis have been duped into paying Rs 3.50 lakh each with a false promise of regularising their service during the President’s Rule administration.
With the PR administration now gone without regularising their service, the contract nurses are demanding back their money but they are being subjected to intimidation and harassment, sources said.
According to the sources, most of the nurses working at JNIMS are ‘Covid warriors’ who were recruited during the Covid pandemic.
Some fellow nurses working at JNIMS collected Rs 3.50 lakh each from the contract nurses with a promise of regularising their service in October 2025.
There are 230 contract nurses at JNIMS and some of them have got their money back. However, 130 nurses who gave Rs 3.50 lakh each with the hope of getting their service regularised are yet to get back their money, said the sources.
Now the nurses who collected the bribe money have taken leave.
Meanwhile, enquiries made by the families of the duped nurses revealed that the JNIMS Director has only sent a proposal to the Health Commissioner for regularisation of the contract nurses.
As the nurses demanded their money back, they were subjected to intimidation. The nurses who collected the bribe money maintained that so far Rs 3.30 crore has been spent in the process of sending a proposal for regularisation, according to the sources.
The sources said that the duped nurses are now facing extreme misery as they gave the bribe money after selling off their jewellery, other properties and borrowing money from other people.
The duped nurses said that the fellow nurses who collected a huge amount from them with a false promise will be exposed before the public if their money is not given back within five days.
