IMPHAL, Feb 27 : The Food Safety Administration, Imphal East has seized several expired juices, cold drinks, and bakery items without manufacturing dates from shops operating at Khurai Lamlong Keithel area today.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the operation, Dr L Kripriyalini, Designated Officer of the Food Safety Administration (Imphal East), explained that the drive was launched yesterday to ensure compliance with food safety regulations in shops across the district.
She noted that the transition from winter to the new season can impact the quality and safety of food products, making it essential to monitor for expired goods or items lacking proper labeling.
During the drive yesterday, several shops were found selling expired cold drinks, which were promptly seized, she said.
Similarly, today, expired cold drinks and bakery items without manufacturing dates were confiscated from shops at Khurai Lamlong area, she said and added that the seized items will be properly disposed of.
Dr Kripriyalini added that local food business operators (FBOs) selling bakery items without manufacturing dates will be summoned and instructed to properly label their products.
She added that the FBOs will also be required to refund the money for the expired items to the shopkeepers, as they are FSSAI license holders.
Reminding that violation of food safety regulations is punishable under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, she emphasised that all FBOs must obtain an FSSAI license.
Many FBOs don't possess FSSAI licenses, Dr Kripriyalini said and urged all consumers to carefully check the labels of products before making a purchase to ensure their safety.
