IIE Annual Sports Meet begins

Imphal, Feb 28 : The Ibotombi Institute of Education (IIE), Canchipur, inaugurated its Annual Sports Meet today at the Manipur University Hockey Field as a continuation of its Annual College Week 2026. The event featured a vibrant and ceremonious opening function.
The programme was attended by dignitaries, including Mayengbam Veto Singh, Director, Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Manipur; Shamjetsabam Sarjubala Devi, Women Inspector, CDO Imphal West, Manipur Police Department; and Dr RK Bijen, Principal of IIE.
As per a release issued by IIE, the inaugural ceremony included a ceremonial Torch Run, the hoisting of the College Flag, an impressive March Past by contingents from different Houses, the administration of the Sports Oath, and the formal declaration of the Meet open.
The disciplined display and enthusiastic participation of the student teachers set an inspiring tone for the event.
In his address, Veto Singh emphasized the significance of games & sports in alignment with the National Policy on Sports and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, highlighting their vital role in nurturing fitness, leadership, teamwork, and international excellence.
Sarjubala Devi motivated the participants by sharing her personal journey and reiterating the diverse career opportunities available to sportspersons in both public and private sectors.
More than 300 student teachers are participating in over 12 disciplines during the two-day Sports Meet, fostering healthy competition, camaraderie, and the spirit of sportsmanship among future educators.
