IMPHAL, Feb 5 : Kuki militants fired several rounds into the air last night at Sinam Kom village, in frustration over the formation of the new State Govt and the swearing-in of Nemcha Kipgen as the Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur.
According to sources, the firing occurred a few hours after the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister, two Deputy Chief Ministers, and two Ministers at Lok Bhavan.
It is believed that the militants’ actions were in response to the formation of the new Government, which they view with discontent.
The incident took place at Sinam Kom.
Sources close to the matter suggest that the militants fired at least three rounds into the air to express their frustration.
In a follow-up development, it was reported that around 10 am today, the militants fired additional 10 rounds into the air, though there have been no reports of the firing targeting Meitei villages.
