IMPHAL, Feb 7: No higher secondary schools must take school fees beyond February from Class XI and XII students of academic session 2025-26, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has said.
In case the fees for months beyond February have already been taken from students, it should be reimbursed or returned by February 14, said the student body in a statement.
AMSU said it has received numerous complaints regarding schools charging and forcing to pay tuition fees upto the month of April and May, which are 'non-working months'.
Classes of an academic session lasts upto January or February. Taking fees for non-working months is unethical, and it puts extra burden on the parents, it said.
AMSU asserted that some schools are even forcing students appearing in Class XII examination this year to pay tuition fees upto April/May by not releasing their admit cards.
All higher secondary schools must return the fees they have received for months beyond February 2026 within a week (by February 14). Schools which are found taking fees for months beyond February 2026 and institutions which refuse to return fees they received for the non-working months will face strict action, AMSU said.
The student body also greeted and sent its wishes to all Class XII students appearing in COHSEM's HSE examination from February 17.
