IMPHAL, Feb 7: The Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) has vehemently condemned "reckless, coercive, terror-driven, and outright criminal actions" of Lamminlun Singsit, a CoTU leader.
Through repeated and brazen misconduct, he has actively sabotaged peace, shattered communal harmony, assaulted democratic values, and endangered public order in Kangpokpi district and surrounding regions, asserted the TSA in a statement.
TSA is outraged and appalled by credible reports that Lamminlun Singsit has viciously intimidated office bearers of the Motbung Youth Club (MYC), particularly its president SK Thanglenmang via aggressive telephonic threats, it said.
He forcibly compelled them to issue a fabricated press rebuttal denying the Thadou Students’ Association’s rightful affirmation of Motbung’s Thadou identity and its support for the popular Government. He further attempted to block and disrupt the scheduled visit of Manipur’s newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho to the Motbung Intra-Village Sports Closing Programme on February 7, TSA said.
In these despicable acts, Lamminlun Singsit repeatedly invoked the name of the armed militant group United Kuki National Army (UKNA) to instill raw terror, spread paralyzing fear among innocent community members, and coerce compliance. He falsely propagated that Motbung is a “Kuki village” and that all Kuki organisations, including the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), of which he is joint secretary, oppose the popular Government. This blatant misuse of an armed outfit’s name constitutes a direct and grave threat to life, liberty, and constitutional governance, TSA said.
Using the fake WhatsApp identity “Wesleypa Singsit” (Mobile No 8729867665), the accused harassed and bullied MYC leaders and members. He himself posted the coerced rebuttal statement in the group in a clear evidence of digital coercion, impersonation, and manipulation, claimed the TSA.
Since the outbreak of Manipur conflict, Lamminlun Singsit, as founding general secretary of COTU Kangpokpi, has ruthlessly mobilized mobs around Motbung village, terrorized innocent Thadou villagers with threats, and allegedly forced them into illegal activities including extortion and collection of funds purportedly for procurement of weapons, alleged the TSA.
The situation is made even more alarming by credible information that the accused’s wife is allegedly connected to Thangmang Haokip of UKNA. His persistent and threatening invocation of UKNA therefore demands immediate, intensive, and high-priority security and intelligence investigation, TSA said.
Lamminlun Singsit possesses absolutely no authority whatsoever to represent the Thadou people, Thadou Inpi – Sadar Hills, or any Thadou organisation. He holds zero legitimacy to speak, act, or issue statements in "our name". Every false claim of Thadou representation is a calculated fraud and will be vigorously exposed, challenged, and crushed, said the TSA.
The Thadou community remains rock-solid in its commitment to peace, Constitutional governance, democratic processes, lawful authority, and peaceful coexistence. TSA will fiercely and uncompromisingly resist and defeat every effort to hijack Thadou identity for personal ambition, political manipulation, or extremist purposes, especially when reinforced by threats and the illegal invocation of armed militant groups such as UKNA, it said.
The Government and all concerned security agencies must arrest Lamminlun Singsit and register FIRs under all applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the Information Technology Act, 2000, and relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA), TSA said.
The Government and its agencies should conduct a rapid, comprehensive, transparent, and high-level investigation into his entire network of activities, associations, funding sources, and connections, particularly his repeated and menacing use of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) name, it added.
It also urged the Government to "provide immediate, robust, and fail-safe security protection to TSA leaders, Motbung Youth Club office bearers, other community heads, student bodies, youth organisations, and civil society groups now facing these direct threats and coercion."
Those who attempt to terrorise the Thadou people or destabilise Manipur’s Constitutional framework will face the full force of law and community resolve. Impunity will not be tolerated, TSA said.
