IMPHAL, Feb 7
While congratulating Yum-nam Khemchand on assu- ming the office of Chief Minister, several organi-sations representing IDPs including Churachandpur Meitei United Committee (CMUC), Meitei Council Moreh (MCM), Committee on Protection of Meitei Victims Moreh (COPMeV), Meitei Union Kangpokpi, Apex Committee of Victim Villages (Ekou, Sadu Yengkhuman, Dolaithabi, Leitanpokpi, Mairenpat & Gwaltabi) and Torbung Gram Panchayat Victim Committee have urged the Chief Minister to take up necessary steps immediately for restoration of peace and resettlement of Meitei IDPs.
Pointing out how the IDPs have been suffering extreme misery since the violent crisis erupted on May 3, 2023, a joint press release issued by the six organisations expressed hope that the new Chief Minister will guide Manipur towards peace, justice, rehabilitation and inclusive development.
It also expressed hope that the new Government will prioritize restoration of  peace and rule of law across the State; safe return, rehabilitation and reconstruction of all displaced families; justice and accountability for victims of violence; protection of constitutional rights of all communities and strengthening unity and social harmony in Manipur.
The organisations have assured full cooperation to all genuine efforts taken up by the new Government to restore normalcy and dignity to the lives of the people affected by the protracted violence.
