Governor’s Cup Polo Chingkheihunba Polo Club sweep men and women’s titles

IMPHAL, Feb 28 : Chingkheihunba Polo Club emerged as the champions of both the 32nd Governor’s Cup Invitation Polo Tournament and 21st Governor’s Cup Women’s Tournament hosted by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association.
In the women’s final staged this afternoon, Chingkheihunba Polo Club, Kongpal defeated Assam Rifles Women’s Polo Team by 6-2 goals to seal the top honour.
Th Tana Devi scored thrice and M Priya Devi scored twice in Chingkheihunba Polo Club’s win today as M Bijenti added one.
For Assam Rifles Women’s Polo Team, Veronica Oinam and N Laxmi scored a goal apiece.
Later in the men’s final, Chingkheihunba Polo Club edged X-Polo Club, Wangkhei 7-6 to lift the title trophy courtesy of three goals from Leishemba Takhellambam, two from Th Kaoba and one goal apiece from Alex Aheibam and O Rozer.
For X-Polo Club, Th Jacob led the scoring with 3 goals under his name as L Atangba, P Ojit and Th Santosh contributed a goal apiece.
The men and women’s winners were feted with a cash prize of Rs 70,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively as the runners up received a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively.
Men’s semi-finalists-AR Polo Team and Black Watch PC were also feted with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each while the other men’s tournament’s participants and women’s participants were encouraged with Rs 5,000 each.
AR Polo team were also adjudged best march past team and feted with a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
