IMPHAL, Mar 1 : In a remarkable stride toward financial inclusion and empowerment of the people of Manipur, the State Bank of India (SBI) has inaugurated four new branches.
The new branches opened on February 27 include SBI Patsoi (65312), SBI Kumbi (65311), SBI Parbung (65313), and SBI Jessami (65317).
The branches were opened virtually by SBI Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty.
The virtual inauguration, conducted from SBI's Local Head Office in Guwahati, underscores the bank's commitment to reaching even the most remote corners of the North East, said a statement released by Khumukcham Okendra Singh, Regional Manager, SBI RBO Imphal.
The SBI Parbung branch is a historic first for Pherzawl district which is nearly 250 km from Imphal.
For years, residents of the remote Parbung area had to undertake long, arduous journeys to access basic banking facilities. Now, with this branch operational, locals can conveniently open savings/current accounts, make deposits, apply for loans, benefit from Government schemes, and embrace digital banking-fostering savings habits, supporting small entrepreneurs, farmers, and families, and driving sustainable economic growth in the region, said the SBI statement.
The SBI Jessami is also the first SBI branch in the area bordering Nagaland and it is 198 km from Imphal. The branch was opened under the Department of Financial Services (DFS) initiative.
The four branches together represent more than just infrastructure; they symbolize hope, opportunity, and progress for Manipur's people, said the SBI.
In line with SBI's broader vision under Setty's leadership to expand aggressively, including plans for hundreds of new branches Nationwide, this initiative strengthens the bank's footprint in underserved areas, ensuring no community is left behind, said the SBI.
