IMPHAL, Mar 11: The Indigenous Peoples' Forum, Manipur (IPFM) has resolved to organize a public rally on March 25 to protest the alleged excessive actions of Central security forces.
In a press release, the IPFM stated that the decision was taken during a consultative meeting of civil society organizations (CSOs) held today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound. The rally will begin at Kangla Gate in a peaceful and democratic manner, with a public gathering planned at THAU Ground, the Forum announced.
Emphasising that the rally will protest the Assam Rifles’ alleged support of Kuki militants, the Forum added that it will invite all communities residing in Imphal to participate in the rally to demonstrate unity, solidarity, and collective responsibility towards addressing the issues affecting the State and its people.
The Forum claimed that the Central security forces have been protecting Kuki militants, emboldening them to claim territories in Manipur, an act that the indigenous people find unacceptable. Saying that the rally aims to highlight the security forces' alleged excessive actions and complicity with Kuki militants, the Forum reiterated that the indigenous people of Manipur are determined to protect their land and heritage.
Additionally, the rally seeks to assert the indigenous peoples' rights to their land, the Forum said, affirming that the indigenous people of Manipur will resist any efforts by illegal immigrants to claim a separate homeland within the State.
