3,000 pre-fabricated houses set up for IDPs : CM

IMPHAL, Mar 12 : A total of 3,000 pre-fabricated temporary shelters have been constructed for those displaced by the crisis in Manipur since May 3, 2023, at a cost of Rs 145.18 crore, Chief Minister Y Khemchand informed the House on the fourth day of the ongoing Assembly session today.
Responding to a query raised by MLA Surjakumar Okram, the Chief Minister elaborated that the 3,000 pre-fabricated temporary shelters were constructed across seven districts - Churachandpur (400), Imphal West (250), Thoubal (200), Kakching (200), Bishnupur (320), Kangpokpi (1,100), and Imphal East (530).
In Churachandpur, the shelters include 250 at T Bethleham,  100 at Zelenphai , Sangaikot (100), and 50 at Torbung.
In Kangpokpi, the shelters are located at Keithelmanbi (150), Saikul (180), Henbung (130), Motbung (280), Lhuntin (180), Nghmun (130), and 50 at the Kangpokpi SP complex.
The remaining 1,500 pre-fabricated shelters are situated at Sekmai (250) in Imphal West, Yaithibi Loukol (200) in Thoubal, Yaithibi Loukol (200) in Kakching, Kwakta (170) and Utlou (320) in Bishnupur, and Sajiwa (200), Sawombung (200), and Pangei (130) in Imphal East, he explained.
He continued that the Government has been providing various forms of assistance to the internally displaced people (IDPs).
In addition to relief supplies such as rice, dal, edible oil, bedding, utensils, water, and electricity, the IDPs were given Rs 100 per person per day for essential supplies till October 31, 2025, through the  Deputy Commissioners, he said and added that the cash assistance has been transitioned to the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode with effect from November 1, 2025.
