IMPHAL, Mar 11 : Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has raised concerns over repeated disturbances of the Indo-Myanmar border fencing along the Manipur sector.
In his Special Mention during the Parliament session today, the RS MP said the Government of India began border fencing in September, 2024 and more than 30 km of fencing work has been completed.
Citing repeated cases of vandalism and disturbances, he recalled that in December 2025, iron fencing poles at the border of Chandel district were cut twice. Similar incidents were reported along the border of Tengnoupal district in August, 2025 and equipment used for fencing construction were also found stolen. Again, in January, 2026, 47 iron poles of approximately 150 metres of fencing were found damaged at the border of Chandel district. Furthermore, up to the end of February, 2026, 11 IEDs were detected and defused along the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district.
In view of such circumstances, the RS MP urged the Government of India to examine the matter thoroughly and take appropriate and timely action so that the border fencing work can continue without any hindrance and is completed at the earliest.
