IMPHAL, Mar 13 : Stating that its allegation of backdoor recruitment at Kumbi College has been proven by the statements of the college Governing Body, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has demanded cancellation of the appointment of 26 Assistant Professors.
According to a press release issued by AMSU, during a press briefing held at the college on March 9, Kumbi College Governing Body member L Ibomcha Meetei reportedly asserted that the 26 Assistant Professors were appointed on contract/temporary basis but the DPC in this connection will be conducted later.
The GB member's statement proves that the appointments were done without following the rules and regulations and guidelines of the UGC and the Directorate of Higher Education such as issuing notice, publishing advertisement, conducting DPC etc.
Referring to another alleged statement made by the GB member which claimed that the appointments were made after a detailed discussion by the Governing Body, AMSU has questioned when the meeting took place, who attended the meeting and further questioned why the two nominees from Manipur University and one nominee from the Directorate of Higher Education were not invited to such an important gathering.
AMSU also noted that the GB had allegedly clarified to the media that the 26 Assistant Professors were appointed following an order from the College Development Council (CDC) of Manipur University.
In this regard, AMSU met with the CDC Director who denied issuing any order for the Kumbi College appointments.
Additionally, the CDC Director informed AMSU representatives that on November 4, 2025, five teachers from MU along with the Director paid an inspection visit to Kumbi College. Then, on November 28 an approval letter was sent to the College Principal for introduction of the four year BA/BSc programme across 10 departments under NEP 2020.
The student body has questioned if the Assistant Professors were appointed to get the approval of CDC, MU for the four year programmes.
Here, AMSU has appealed to the CDC, MU to take appropriate action against the alleged backdoor appointments and urged the two nominees from MU and one from Directorate of Directorate of Higher Education who are GB members to initiate steps to cancel the appointments.
Moreover, AMSU has directed the secretary and chairman of Kumbi College Governing Body to take responsibility for the illegal practices and resign from their posts.
