Additional helicopter service scheduled for Imphal-Ukhrul route

IMPHAL, Mar 13 : The Transport Department has scheduled additional helicopter service for the Imphal-Ukhrul-Imphal route in view of urgent transportation requirements of the public due to the grave situation along NH-202.
As per a press release issued by Director Khumanthem Diana, 2 helicopter sorties have been scheduled for March 14, one sortie each for March 15 and 17 and two sorties for March 18.
The chopper service has been arranged over and above the regular sorties. However, operation of the service is subject to weather conditions.
Passengers have been advised to carry minimum luggage, with only 7 kg allowed per passenger.
The passengers have been further advised to contact the Nodal Officer (Heli Service), Office of DC, Ukhrul- Phone No 8732851945, (for journey from Ukhrul) and 7005203080 (for journey from Imphal) for any query related to booking and schedule of operations.
It is worth noting that Ukhrul AC MLA Ram Muivah, retd IAS, had requested the Director of Transport Department to arrange daily to-and-fro emergency chopper services between Imphal and Ukhrul and Imphal and Kamjong until the reopening of NH-202.
The MLA had highlighted the challenges faced by commuters, specially students, who are appearing for exams, medical treatment patients, pre-booked flight travellers and professional employees who travel from Ukhrul to Imphal and Kamjong to Imphal daily, who have been unable to travel by road for the last two days.
In another development, the Manipur police has registered three FIRs in connection with the exchange of gunfire in Thawai Kuki Hill Range, abduction of Tangkhul civilians and the alleged killing of two Kukis.
