IMPHAL, Mar 15 : Tension in Manipur's hill districts remains high as Kuki militants attacked Sinakeithei Village this morning around 8.30.
Reportedly, the Kuki militants fired a barrage of bullets from the Lungter Hill range while the Tangkhul Naga Christian community was gathering peacefully for worship.
As the silence of prayer was shattered by continuous gunfire, the villagers questioned the Kuki militants, asking if they considered themselves fellow Christians.
The Church service was disrupted by the sound of bullets echoing through the hills.
Residents of Sinakeithei claimed that the Kuki militants fired automatic weapons towards the village while they were attending the Church service.
The villagers expressed their disbelief, saying they never imagined that those who claimed to be fellow Christians would fire upon innocent people in a place of worship.
Fear and anxiety gripped the congregation, making it impossible to continue the Church service.
Later, around 11 am., innocent children gathered for their Sunday school classes.
However, the incessant gunfire, which continued from morning until the afternoon, created panic and trauma among the children.
For their safety, the Sunday school session had to be halted, and the children were sent home.
It is reported that Kuki militants could be seen roaming the Lungter Hill range with automatic weapons throughout the day, causing further panic among the residents of Sinakeithei.
This is not an isolated incident as reports suggested that firing at Sinakeithei has become a disturbing pattern and a daily occurrence, severely affecting the villagers' everyday lives.
The situation has also created tension and insecurity among people at adjacent villages, including Nepali settlers, who are equally living under constant fear.
"When bullets replace prayer and fear replaces worship, one must ask: Do you truly call yourselves Christians?" the villagers asked the Kuki militants.
