IMPHAL, Mar 18: A hand grenade, hurled by unidentified persons suspected to be members of an underground outfit, exploded yesterday night at the residential gate of Yumkhaibam Homendro, Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department.
The incident occurred at around 9.30 pm yesterday at Malom Tuliyaima, under Nambol police station, Imphal West district.
The explosion partially damaged the gate, but no one was injured.
Strongly condemning the attack, womenfolk of Malom Tuliyaima staged a sit-in protest in the locality late last night.
The womenfolk condemned the blast in the crowded residential area, and demanded those who are behind the blast to take responsibility and clarify the reason behind the attack.
The locals urged individuals or groups concerned not to repeat such incidents in Malom area in the future.
