IMPHAL, Mar 18 : A household survey under the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) is being conducted across Manipur from March to May 2026. This exercise is aimed at generating comprehensive evidence on the socio-economic and health conditions of the elderly population.
With fieldwork commencing, trained survey teams are visiting households across districts to collect detailed information on ageing-related issues, including healthcare access, financial security, living arrangements, and mental and physical well-being. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, with Population Council Consulting Pvt Ltd (PCC) providing technical and implementation support.
Officials said that rapid social and economic transitions, along with migration patterns, have contributed to emerging vulnerabilities among older persons. The survey is expected to systematically identify these challenges and generate actionable insights.
Field investigators, selected locally, have already undergone structured training covering survey methodology, ethical standards, confidentiality protocols, and digital data collection tools. The findings from the study are expected to contribute significantly to evidence-based policymaking and the strengthening of elderly welfare programmes in Manipur.
