IMPHAL, Mar 18 : Expressing concern over the unfolding situation in Manipur, Khomdram Ratan, former convenor of JCILPS, has stated that Manipur’s society has deteriorated, as its people have developed a mindset of dependence on others for almost everything.
AMSU organised an academic campaign as part of the 46th Realisation Month at Keishamthong Model High School today.
Addressing the function as a resource person, Ratan, also an advisor of UPF, alleged that the people of Manipur have forgotten the importance of defending their own land since the merger with India.
The majority of Manipuris believe that safeguarding the State depends on others, and this mindset, he emphasized, has contributed to the deterioration of "our society."
Stating that the future of Manipur remains uncertain, he urged the people to understand the gravity of the situation.
He claimed that not only are illegal immigrants entering the State unchecked, but they are also waging a war against the Manipuris.
Meeteis have been unable to move beyond the valley districts since the onset of the ongoing crisis in Manipur, he said and maintained that they may not be able to live in the valley districts too in the future if they don't act now.
Saying that the 2011 census report revealed abnormal population growth in some hill districts, he expressed concern that the upcoming population count may show an even more alarming figure.
AMSU president Lukram Malangba and Head Mistress of Keishamthong Model High School Salam Sunita also attended the programme.
